god's work
Design is a constant production of things that delight, or at least engage people, whereas engineering is a hard grind with moments of glory.
A lot of my work recently has been frontend engineering, either catching up to technical debt or refining a built product. As it turns out, pruning a codebase is my kind of gardening.
Anyway, engineering is a hard grind, and a lot of the work you end up doing is invisible. Sam Yoon calls it god’s work.
